Minutes of meeting of the Adel Association
Held on Thursday 17th November 2011
In The Stables, Back Church Lane
1. The Vice Chairman, Paula Brown welcomed everyone to the meeting. She gave apologies for the Chairman who was away on business.
2. Update from the local Police
PC Bob Stead and Sgt. Beck attended the meeting and gave us an update on crime in the Adel area. At present they are focusing on burglary. Although Adel is not a high crime area there has been a spate of burglaries in the past 2 weeks. There was also a nasty robbery on Bedquilts when 3 people set upon 4 others.
Cold callers collecting scrap metal should be discouraged and the police would be pleased to hear from anyone who receives a visit from people claiming to be buying/selling.
They have two other priorities at this time – Parking around the schools and speeding. The SID machine/laser guns and ticketing are all being deployed.
PC Bob Stead gave an update on the specific burglaries that had taken place.
3. Cold Calling Zones
Angela and Paula advised that they would meet separately outwith the meeting and update the next meeting in January.
4. Holt Avenue Development
The stone samples were shown to the meeting and a vote was taken. The majority of people wanted to see a mixture of the two types/colours of stone or the neutral coloured “old heather black”. 2 people wanted the gold stone and nobody wanted the red brick.
Geoff Steel updated the meeting on his attendance at the pre-application meeting that was open to the public. He advised that the Council Planners seemed very keen on the red brick. The developers had not ruled out stone.
Our preferred choice of stone needs to be relayed to the developers. This will be done through the chairman.
For the record 35 people attended the meeting.
5. Bodington Hall Development
Cllr. Barry Anderson updated the meeting on the plans. There are circa 160 houses proposed for the site where the student accommodation currently sits. This is brownfield land. The two fields at the top of the site and the side of the site are to be used for business purposes. Two entrances are proposed and this was not well received by those residents who went to look at the plans. All the residents who attended were against having two entrances. Other considerations are:
Schools – no room at either of the two Primary schools.
Drainage concerns.
Infrastructure concerns e.g. GPs. etc.
Lawnswood site could add another 100 houses to this area.
The proposed houses for Bodington will be large. The consultation will go on for another week then the planning application will be submitted.
Cllr. Anderson advised residents that it is important to look at the overall strategy of the house building in the area. This is a brownfield site and it is better to build here than on the green belt.
Barry Cook asked that the “Dalwood Mural” needs to be preserved. Cllr. Anderson will write to the Developer to ask what is intended for this mural.
6. Adel Neighbourhood Design Statement
Val Crompton advised that the Planning Department are now checking through the proposed amendments with a view to submitting it to a Planning Board to have the changes formally accepted.
7. East Causeway pathway
Amanda Schonfeld updated the meeting as to progress she had made. The grant applications have been submitted. Speed surveys have been done. Cllr. Anderson is to meet highways soon.
8. Adel Crag Community Notice board
Francis Garbutt updated the meeting in respect of the notice board which is to be placed outside the shop on Sir George Martin Drive. Anyone can put a notice on the board, Francis will hold the key.
9. Website
Barry Cook updated the meeting. The Association Website has now been rebuilt and the Association wanted to put on record our thanks to Chris Cunliffe for his help with this. Barry is currently adding the various records that were on the site as quickly as he can because the previous data has all been lost. Anyone who would like to put something on the website should send it to Barry Cook.
10. AOB
Paula showed everyone a Christmas Card that Adel Church are using this year and some photographic prints (50) are available if anyone would like to buy one at £10. All proceeds will go to the Church.
Val updated the meeting on her attendance at the last Civic Trust meeting. This was on Local Planning Policy. A report is available to take home tonight.
There is a Christmas Concert at the Church with refreshments afterwards in the Stables on Friday 16th December at a cost of £5. Proceeds to Church funds.
The meeting closed at 9pm
There is no meeting in December. The date of the next meeting is Thursday 19th January 2012.
