We are still very preoccupied with protecting the fields opposite Adel Church and have attended consultation meetings at Leeds City Council and nationally to discuss the proposals for the Localism Bill. Like many people and organisations all over the country we are very concerned that the power originally promised to local authorities to make planning decisions in consultation with organisations such as ours, does not appear to be what was ex- pected. There is provision for saving sites of historical interest, which we will be focussing on to protect our Church fields, but we remain nervous that this Bill is largely a developer’s charter.
We strongly believe in development and the need to build new houses, but local concerns need to be recognised. Developers have been land-banking and not building on sites where planning permission has already been granted. They find it more profitable to build on Greenfield rather than Brownfield sites. Permission has already been granted to build 20,000+ houses around Leeds – so where are they?
We need support from our residents to protect our community, so do please attend our meetings and raise your voices.
We agreed at our last meeting to fund local Cold Calling Control Zones to stop rogue traders and doorstep crime. We are also close to finalising the updated Adel Neighbourhood Design Statement which will then be accessible on our website.
Please let me know in advance of any local issues that you would like to raise at our meetings. People are increasingly bringing ideas and concerns to our meetings for support and discussion.
