Bedqilts - Rubbish |

I recently received information from a local resident that there was a recurrence of a problem on Bedquilts in respect of litter following team sports, particularly at the weekend. I took this up with Parks & Countryside and have received the following response from the Area Manager: "We have just written to the individual teams who play football on the Bedquilts advising them to remove their rubbish and warned about the byelaws regarding tipping. I have also installed signs stating this. We are also in the process of contacting the university and will monitor the situation." Please let me know if the situation does not improve. |

Walls, Gates & Fences - Planning Issues |

|

I was recently asked by a local resident "What is the Planning policy on the height of gates, walls and fences as boundaries?". I received the response below from the Head of Planning Services: As ever there is not a straightforward reply to this! Generally speaking the Permitted Development rights which exist nationally mean that gates, walls or fences that abutt a highway do not require planning permission if they are not higher than 1 meter above ground level. On side and rear boundaries which do not adjoin a highway then the height restriction is 2 meters before planning permission is required. There are some exceptions to this - e.g. on a more modern estate where permitted development rights on front boundary treatments may have been taken away or open plan estates of the past where there may be some restrictions ( eg Holt Park ). We do not have a policy as such but applications are determined on their merits taking into account local character and the appearance in the street scene." |
