A company called Helpmates Limited has been putting flyers through letterboxes asking for donations of clothes, shoes and other items which can be left on doorsteps and then sent to the Third World.

Although not explicitly claiming to be a charity, concerns have been raised that the company's literature might make people think they are giving to a charitable organisation.  Check out this link for further details.  Here is the Westminster debate details

Please be aware that Fire Safety Officers in the area provide an ongoing service to all those who request it. The fire service will come to your home and fit smoke alarms for you, free of charge, whilst carrying out a safety check and asking questions about appliances, exit routes etc. The number to call for a free safety check is 0800 5874536.

The Adel Association have been contacted by a Bramhope resident who has provided the following cautionary tale concerning the attempted theft of her car yesterday.

If you have been contacted by a friend or acquaintance offering you a money making opportunity described as "network marketing" I advise you to read this Dept of Trade & Industry booklet  before making a decision to join. 

I have recently been contacted by a local resident who has paid £20 to reserve her place in a network marketing venture.  Various health and medical claims were made for the product, but very little information was supplied regarding the true costs of joining such a network - such as training courses, books, time investment etc.

Remember... if an opportunity to make money seems too good to be true it probably is!
